Burial Fund

What is it?

The Burial Fund is administrated by the Enrollment Office and will pay for funeral services for eligible individuals.  The family may use the funeral home or mortuary of their choice and the Burial fund will pay the funeral establishment directly, up to $5,500. The family is responsible for any amount exceeding $5,500.

The Burial Fund provides a funeral reception benefit in the amount of $300, which is paid directly to a family member, unless you’re having the food service program provide the meal then the check will need to be cut directly to them.  The reception benefit may be used to purchase food for a family gathering.

Who is Eligible?

All enrolled Tribal members, their parents, their children and spouses are eligible. Adopted children are eligible, but adoption papers must be provided. All other relationships must be documented (such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc.)

Are cemetery expenses covered?

Grand Ronde Tribal cemetery plots are available at no cost to Tribal members, their spouses, and children.  Families are responsible for the cost of opening and closing of the grave.

Who do we contact when there is a death in the family?

You may contact Jolanda Catabay or Penny DeLoe in the Enrollment Office. You will be asked to provide a family member’s name and address to send the reception benefit to. You will also be asked to have the funeral home contact us, so we can verify the amount to be paid and receive documentation needed to submit a payment request.
