The Natural Resources Division (NRD) is responsible for managing the Tribe’s timber asset. We layout and administer timber sales which funds the Tribal Member Timber Distribution Payments to Tribal Members. In addition, the NRD issues fishing and hunting tags and licenses for the Tribes subsistence allotment from the state of Oregon in the Trask Management Unit. The NRD also issues greenery gathering permits for moss, salal, fern, and some other minor forest products. The NRD issues firewood permits to Tribal Members only, for the Reservation.

Fish & Wildlife

The Fish and Wildlife department examines the health of deer and elk herds on the Reservation, and provides better forage and habitat. The department also conducts surveys for Threatened and Endangered species that may occur on the Reservation and any other tribal trust properties. They are always looking at ways to improve fish habitat and populations in Reservation streams.

Recreation & Projects

The Recreation and Projects program provides, creates, organizes and enhances recreational opportunities on the Reservation and surrounding communities. The Reservation provides a variety of recreational opportunities. Hiking trails have been established and a day-use park provides a quiet natural experience for visitors. The trails and the park are open to public use, including non-tribal members.

Silviculture & Protection

The Silviculture and Protection department promotes the growth of timber while maintaining forest health and productivity.
Forest protection is important to sound forest management, inadequate protection can lead to poor performance or even collapse the silviculture program. Protection from forest pests, including animals, disease, fires, insects, and humans will be aggressively pursued.

Timber & Roads

There are two primary missions for the Timber and Roads Department. The first is to plan and implement sustainable harvest prescriptions on the Tribes’ forest and maximize the revenue obtained from the sale of forest products. Secondly, the Department is responsible for maintaining, improving, and developing the forest road transportation system for the extraction of commercial products and for recreational access by the public.
