Tribal Council voted to disenroll a 15th member of the Tribe at its Oct. 23 meeting.
The most recent disenrollment states that the Tribal member was disenrolled “because he or she was enrolled in error and therefore does not meet the requirements for enrollment” as stated in the Tribal Constitution and Enrollment Ordinance.
Testimony during the hearing before Tribal Council indicated that the Tribal member also was enrolled in the Sioux Tribe at the time of their enrollment in Grand Ronde, which is in violation of the Tribal Constitution.
In mid-August, Tribal Council voted to disenroll 13 Tribal members because they were dually enrolled in another Tribe. In early September, three of those disenrolled Tribal members were re-enrolled because they had relinquished their membership in the other Tribe more than five years ago and they met current enrollment requirements.
The current number of Tribal members who have been disenrolled and not re-admitted under current enrollment requirements stands at 12.
In other action, Tribal Council:
- Amended the Tribal Court ordinance to modify the qualifications for judges and to implement a Tribal Court Bar, which will allow for the establishment of standards, as well as the formation of a Bar Commission, to address concerns regarding attorney conduct.
- Approved the enrollment of three infants into the Tribe.
- Approved the agenda for the Nov. 3 General Council meeting, which will focus on the draft 2014 Tribal budget.
