Sites are an important representation of past cultural lifeways that are irreplaceable.    Sites are the voice of a people who left them and how they changed over time. How they lived; their social, economic, and political environment and how they adapted to changing conditions. Destruction of a site interferes with this voice. Many of these sites are used today traditionally by native people for hunting, fishing, gathering, and spiritual ceremony. We depend on the voice of our ancestors for our physical and spiritual well being. Current Oregon laws protect historic and prehistoric sites.  If you think you have discovered a site, DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING.  Contact the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office (503) 986-0681.
