The memorial was designed by Tribal member and Marine Veteran Steve Bobb and features a man and a woman dressed in traditional clothing side-by-side reaching to the sky. Surrounding the memorial is four granite pillars each representing the four branches of the armed services. The pillars feature the names of Grand Ronde Tribal members and area Veterans of war from the three communities of Grand Ronde, Willamina and Sheridan.
The Veterans’ Memorial Committee worked for years to raise money for the memorial by holding bake sales, auctions and a re-enactment of the Trail of Tears to bring attention and funds to the project.
The Memorial was dedicated in 2003 and today is the centerpiece of the Grand Ronde Tribal Campus in Oregon.
