Wood Village Property

The Tribe’s Wood Village property is a 26.67-acre parcel of land in Wood Village, Oregon. The property is located within the Tribe’s ancestral homelands.

The area was once home to our ancestors from the Cascade and Clackamas Chinook tribes. The lands were ceded to the United States Government under the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855. Following that treaty, our ancestors were removed to the Grand Ronde Reservation.

The Wood Village property was purchased by the Tribe in 2015 to in an effort to diversify the Tribe’s portfolio, explore opportunities for redevelopment and to remove the threat of a private casino development on the site. After the purchase, Tribal staff worked closely with City staff on the City’s zoning efforts, remediated environmental hazards and demolished the old Multnomah Kennel Club grand stand.

Ultimately, the property remained undeveloped and was listed for sale by the Tribe in 2018. In 2020, the Tribe decided to revisit the sale of the property after an announcement was made that the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians (CTSI) would pursue a tribal casino in Salem, Oregon. If approved, the CTSI facility would have a devastating impact on Spirit Mountain Casino which is owned and operated by the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. Since then, the Tribe has taken the property off the market and is working on moving the land into Trust.

The Tribe is updating development plans and is developing scenarios that could accommodate a 120,000-140,000 square foot casino development at the site.
