General Educational Development (GED) provides basic academic skill development and instruction. Tutoring is available in the Adult Education Building on Monday and Wednesday from 1:00PM to 4:00PM. Requests for tutoring at other times can be arranged with the Program Coordinator. Transportation to the Chemeketa Community College Yamhill Valley Campus can be provided for members of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, on a limited basis. GED registration at Chemeketa Yamhill Valley Campus in McMinnville (288 NE Norton Lane) is on Mondays from 3:00PM to 5:00PM and the GED Testing is on Wednesday (Math and Writing) and Thursday (Reading, Social Studies, and Science) from 11:00AM-4:20PM.
The GED / High School Completion program will assist CTGR enrolled members who live outside of the Grand Ronde area to access GED classes, registration, and testing services at their local community college or other available sites within their own communities.
The GED / High School Completion Coordinator provides GED tutoring and classes regularly in Grand Ronde for CTGR Tribal families, staff, other tribal members, and the community.
High School Completion is funded by the Adult Education Program for CTGR Tribal members who are within three credits of completing their degree and cannot finish through traditional high school channels. Applicants must identify the reason they need high school completion and their plan for completion. Documented proof of completion must be submitted.
Food Handlers’ Online Class/Certification is available to Tribal members and employees of the Tribe. The GED / High School Completion Program assists students in taking online classes through the Oregon Restaurant and Lodging Association. Payment authorization is made upon successful completion. Successful completion provides the student with a food handler’s certificate that is valid for three years.
Assessment is provided to CTGR Tribal members actively attending GED classes in Grand Ronde or the satellite offices. After being evaluated for learning difficulties the GED / High School Completion Coordinator will refer the student to a licensed psychologist for certified testing. If the assessment determines that the student requires accommodations, a request will be made to the state for testing accommodations. Accommodations can include double time, a private room, frequent breaks, calculator use for both sections of the math, use of an audiocassette, and a scribe for the writing section.

This program assists adult members of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde while attending post-secondary schooling, generally on a part-time basis, at accredited colleges and universities. Participating students can be pursuing associates, bachelors or graduate-level degrees, or simply taking coursework for their own enrichment.
The goal of the program is to assist tribal members with the direct financial costs associated with acquiring higher education – thereby providing the opportunity for personal and professional development that leads to self-sufficiency, economic independence, and life-long learning.
Through direct payments to colleges and universities, the Part-time College (PTC) program supports participants with payment of tuition, fees, textbooks and required supplies. Qualified applicants in the PTC program are eligible for funding not to exceed $1,600 for undergraduate students at a two year college, $2,400 for undergraduate students at a four year college, and $3,200 for graduate students, funding amount listed is per term/quarter.
There are no residency or income restrictions on eligibility. Over the past year the PTC program has served an average of 115 tribal members per school term, ranging in age from 18 to 61 and living in 22 different states and 2 foreign countries. The program historically has a student success rate between 85% and 88% each term, with successful completion rates of 86.6% and 89.1% in the two most recent terms.
The initial PTC application must be completed and submitted to the Education Division at least thirty (30) days prior to the start of the school term when first entering the program. For subsequent terms of enrollment a new application does not need to be completed; students can contact the PTC program specialist by phone or email to make arrangements for continuing in the program after the first term of participation.
Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress by achieving a minimum grade of a C, per course or equivalent as defined by the educational intuition. If a student does not meet the academic requirements they are required to reimburse the Education Division for all cost associated with the course.
For more information on the PTC program or to have an application sent to you contact Tracy Biery at 1-800-422-0232, x4591, or by email at tracy.biery@grandronde.org.

What is a GED?
The GED stands for General Educational Development. It is an alternative to a high school diploma. You will be given an official certificate of completion and score report following completion.
How do I go about getting my GED?
The first step is to fill out the Adult Education Program application available on the Tribal website or by calling 1-800-422-0232 Ext. 1345.
If you live in the Grand Ronde area, just simply call or stop by the GED Classroom in the Adult Education Building. Classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-4PM and tutoring is available by appointment on other days. The first step is to go through the assessment process to find out what skill level you are at in each subject area. Once that is completed, you can start working toward building your skills as needed and eventually you will be ready to test!
If you live outside of the Grand Ronde area, look for a local community college or other GED/Adult Basic Education preparation program that is near you. The Tribe can assist with the costs of preparation classes, assessment, and the GED tests if you are a Grand Ronde Tribal member. If you are in a situation where you can only study for the GED from home, there are preparation workbooks and websites available for you. Just simply contact the Adult Education Coordinator and you will be assisted to come up with a plan for preparation.
How much does it cost to get my GED?
It varies by institution (depending on where you are taking your preparation classes and testing). Typically it is around $125 for the testing and $70 per class (fall, winter, spring, or summer are when classes are offered at community colleges). There is funding assistance available for these costs for Grand Ronde Tribal Members. All preparation classes offered in Grand Ronde are free to community members and Grand Ronde Tribal members.
How many GED tests are there and what are they?
There are five tests. They include Reading, Social Studies, Science, Writing, and Math. The Writing test is split into two sections – a multiple choice section and an essay. You will be given an essay prompt to write about. The math test is also split into two sections. There is one section that allows calculator use and one that does not.
How long are the tests?
Reading is up to 65 minutes Social Studies is up to 70 minutes Science is up to 80 minutes Writing is up to 2 hours Math is up to 90 minutes
You do not take all 5 tests at one time. You will schedule a testing session per subject at the testing center. If you are a local area student, the math and writing tests are offered on Wednesdays and Reading, Social Studies, and Science are offered on Thursdays at the Chemeketa Community College Yamhill Valley campus. For more information about the tests, go to: www.gedtest.org, then click on Information for Test Takers.
Where do I test for the GED?
If you are a Grand Ronde area student, you will test at the Chemeketa Community College Yamhill Valley Campus located at 288 NE Norton Lane in McMinnville. If you are located outside of the Grand Ronde area, it will most likely be at the community college or official GED testing center nearest you. Note: most testing centers require that you attend a mandatory registration or testing orientation session prior to testing.
What are the requirements for taking and passing the GED in Oregon?
Receive a minimum standard score of 410 on each of the five tests, an average passing score on all five tests of 450 or more and a total minimum passing score of 2,250.
What if I don’t pass the first time?
The GED Testing Service permits GED candidates to test up to three times per subject test, per contract year (January 1 to December 31), based on the number of standard forms available each contract year. For example, if you do not pass a test the first time, you can take it two more times during the calendar year. The re-test fee is usually around $15.00 per test.
How long will it take me to get my GED?
It depends on your skill level when you start in a GED Preparation program and how motivated you are to receive your GED. It can take anywhere from one week to one year or longer.
Who do I contact for a copy of my GED Transcript?
If you received your GED in Oregon visit the website for the Request for GED Records form at: http://www.oregon.gov/CCWD/GED/ or contact: State Board of Education Department of Community Colleges & Workforce Development/GED® Program 255 Capitol St NE, Salem OR 97310 (503) 378-4325
If you received your GED in another state besides Oregon, contact the State GED Office or visit their website. Typically you can use the search engine www.google.com to find it. Another way is to contact the community college or institution where you received your GED from. If you need assistance, contact the Adult Education Coordinator at 1-800-422-0232 Ext. 1345
Do I need to fill out a non-credit program application each time I want to access the program?
No. Once you have an application on file you needn’t submit a new one unless your phone and/or address change.
Can the non-credit program pay for conference registrations?
Yes. However, as all Higher Education Programs require evidence of successful completion, you must get a copy of the Attendance Certification form from the Non-credit Program Coordinator and have it completed at the conference.
If a course lasts longer than one quarter, may I access additional funding?
No. Non-credit Program funding is limited to $500 maximum per funded training.
Will the non-credit program pay for testing fees?
No. The Non-credit Program cannot pay testing or examination fees.
Can I access the non-credit program if I am currently active and receiving funding from another higher education program?
Most likely yes. Since the other Higher Education Programs fund college credit courses there is little chance of duplicating funding. Check with the Non-credit Program Coordinator to be certain.
Will the non-credit program pay for individual lessons?
No. All funded courses must be organized in a classroom style. Study-at-home options are available through some institutions, and are subject to review for approval by the Non-credit Program Coordinator.
Do I have to take a class at a college?
No, you take a class anywhere that the class is offered, including online.
Please contact Joshua Clift, Non-credit Program Coordinator at Ext. 1635 or email Joshua.Clift@grandronde.org for more information or to receive an application.
