Dive into the rich history, struggles, and resilience of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. This presentation sheds light on the tribe's indigenous culture, ancestral lands, and their journey throughout centuries of colonization and forced removals. Through stories, capitaving videos, and photographs, this engaging presentation highlights the efforts made by the Confederated Tribes to preserve their heritage, revive cultural practices, and reclaim their sovereignty, with a focus on resilience, empowerment, and the continued struggle for recognition and justice.

Opening Doors of Diversity: An Educator's Guide to Culturally Responsive Books

Duration: 45 minutes

This training aims to equip educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to embrace diversity and incorporate culturally responsive books into their curriculum. By exploring various aspects of cultural diversity, including race, ethnicity, language, and gender identity, participants will learn how to select and introduce literature that reflects the experiences and perspectives of all students. The training will also address the importance of fostering empathy, critical thinking, and self-reflection amongst learners, with the ultimate goal of creating inclusive and equitable classroom environments that celebrate diversity and promote cultural understanding.

 



Redefining Native Education: Culturally Responsive Teaching Practices for Native Youth

This presentation aims to explore the importance of culturally responsive teaching practices for Native youth, highlighting the significance of acknowledging and nurturing their unique cultural backgrounds in educational settings. By understanding the historical and ongoing experiences of Native communities, educators can develop strategies that promote inclusivity and enhance student engagement. Culturally responsive teaching practices emphasize the incorporation of indigenous knowledge, language, and traditions into the curriculum, fostering a sense of belonging and empowering Native youth to succeed academically, while maintaining their cultural identity. This presentation will discuss practical examples and research-backed strategies to help educators create culturally responsive learning environments that promote educational equity and honor Native students' rich cultural heritage.

 



Empowering Native Youth through Trauma-Informed Teaching: Cultivating Resilience and Healing

Duration: 2-3 hours

This presentation aims to explore trauma-informed teaching practices specifically tailored for Native youth. Understanding that historical trauma and adverse childhood experiences disproportionately affect Native communities, it becomes crucial to develop approaches that promote healing, resilience, and academic success. By examining the effects of trauma on Native youth and the barriers they face within the educational system, this presentation will discuss the principles and strategies that contribute to creating safe, culturally responsive, and empowering learning environments. Annual Education Summit

Each year, the Tribe hosts a full-day professional development opportunities for educators across the state. During this Summit, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from Native educators, students, CTGR employees, and community members who come together to share knowledge, resources, and inspiration for Native American education. Don't miss this opportunity to network, learn, and celebrate the power of education in our indigenous community.
