Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde’s Tribal Youth Prevention program is committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle, providing prevention, education, training and advocacy to strengthen our youth, families and community.

Tribal Youth Prevention is a grant funded program based on cultural values, tradition and beliefs.

OFFICE OF JUVENILE JUSTICE DELINQUENCY PREVENTION,
OREGON YOUTH DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL, JUVENILE CRIME PREVENTION

Provide services to reduce control and prevent juvenile crime and delinquency

  • Reduce gang mentality and activity in our community by awareness, education and alternative activities.
  • Reduce access and use of alcohol to youth and alcohol related crimes
  • Work with incarcerated CTGR Tribal youth to assist with transition program to reduce recidivism
  • Provide advocacy and case management for court-involved tribal youth
  • Use State of Oregon Juvenile Crime Prevention initial assessment and reviews for youth that meet the risk factors (see attached data)

OREGON DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES, ALCOHOL AND DRUG PREVENTION

Provide prevention services to impact the risk factors for alcohol and drug use.

  • Reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) by awareness, education and alternative activities
  • Provide parenting education/training opportunities
  • Provide activities that are based in our values, culture and tradition
  • Provide community education and training that promotes and support living healthy lifestyles
  • Ensure that ATOD prevention activities are guided by environmental and social policy

SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATION,
NATIVE YOUTH SUICIDE PREVENTION GRANT

Provide prevention services that impact the risk factors for youth suicide.

  • Eliminate risk factors and promote protective factors among Native American youth.
  • Raise community awareness, mobilize and train local and state resources
  • Design and implement programs that are based on traditional, spiritual and cultural beliefs integrated with known best practices in youth suicide prevention
  • Promote the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-TALK (see Smoke Signals)
  • Provide Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

OREGON DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES PUBLIC HEALTH,
TOBACCO PREVENTION AND EDUCATION PROGRAM

Provide leadership to address local policy in the area of tobacco prevention.

  • Mobilize the community to support and implement policy, systems, and environmental changes
  • Addressing tobacco prevention
  • Promote the Oregon Tobacco Quit Line (see Smoke Signals)
  • Provide tobacco prevention education

ADMINISTRATION OF CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILIES,
TRIBAL PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY EDUCATION PROGRAM

Provide prevention strategies to reduce teen pregnancy and repeat pregnancies among youth up to 21 years of age.

  • Implement Community Readiness Model and needs assessment in the area of adolescent sexual health
  • Research and implement evidence-based programs that educate adolescents on both abstinence and contraception to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections and other adulthood preparation topics such as healthy relationships, communication with parents, and financial literacy

DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES,
STRATEGIC PREVENTION FRAMEWORK-STATE INCENTIVE GRANT

Provide a comprehensive prevention process, a direction and a common set of goals to be adopted and integrated.

  • Prevent the onset and reduce the progression of substance abuse, including childhood and underage drinking
  • Reduce substance –related problems
  • Build prevention capacity and infrastructure

OREGON YOUTH DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL/FORMULA GRANT

Provide therapeutic horsemanship sessions to reduce risk factors associated with juvenile delinquency

  • At-risk youth attend weekly sessions at Mustang and MOHR
  • One-on-one mentoring with Youth Prevention staff
